I found myself watching way too much youtube content.
I found myself watching too much YouTube content.
It felt good, it felt like I was learning.
Every now and then in my free time, I’d slap on that YouTube icon on my phone and scroll through till I find something worth watching.
Most times, I usually have food with me. The food would get cold, and I’d still be scrolling looking for the “perfect” video to watch.
Sometimes, I’d end up not watching at all, or if I do find something to watch, I end up watching not up to 10 minutes (I’m surprised sometimes at how fast I eat), and then there’s some videos that I finish.
The type of channels I watch are The Futur, all things branding, video and sound editing, and spirituality and the list goes on. These videos are filled information worth knowing.
Even when I’m watching, my mind goes “this stuff is important.”
But in the situation, I found myself, eating, or performing some activity that doesn’t require too much brain activity, all I could see was a bunch of people talking.
I knew it was important, but still I had to focus on task at hand (eating, or doing a low brain usage activity) which is disturbing because when you think about it, when you’re engaged in another activity that requires too much brain activity and doing another thing, in this case of watching YouTube videos, you leave the video without a clue on what happened in there.
Sure, you might get a few points out of it, but the gems are still in the video that you need to extract by watching it with a pen and paper or anything you note points on, but for the context of this story, i’ll stick to the pen and paper or notebook.
The pen and paper issue has been fantasized by every person who’s made it to the top at one point in time, whether late or present. So maybe it’s actually as important as they say it is.
I mean look at the facts, we remember what we write down more than what we think we’ll remember.
It is important that you don’t mistake me and think this is training your memory to work at a lower capacity than it was supposed to, but I think the pen and paper is important.
So, understanding this is important. Just as a person wouldn’t attend 10 to 20 different talks, in one day, you shouldn’t watch all that content in one day too. It’s tiring for real. But if you can, be my guest. The reality is that you won’t execute on the majority of the things you find out.
Yes sure, that what the internet was made for. To give it all to you and to give it all now! But maybe it’s time we stepped back a little.
Watch one lesson, then go and implement and then come back. Sure, you can watch more videos, but I think they should complement each other.
And don’t forget to have fun. Life is not all grind.
See you in a few.
