Stop Reading Books — They’re not helping!

Books are awesome, they teach us stuff and make us smarter but there’s a danger — getting caught up in reading that you forget to actually do stuff.

There’s an entire sea of information, with books like treasure maps, guiding us to new places. The problem arises when we collect treasure and never, ever, use it.

Too Much Info is a Thing

We get so lost in consuming that we forget that the purpose of consuming was to take action.

It feels good to consume.
It’s similar to talking about your goals.

When you take courses, read books, and consume vast amounts of knowledge without taking action, you may reach a point where you feel overwhelmed and unsure of how to apply what you’ve learned.

It’s like setting goals and not preparing systems to achieve them.

To understand and get the success stories you see on social media about what a book did, remember the true value of knowledge is in its application.

It is important to know that not all books require action.
Categories of books like self-help books help to reprogram the mind which rarely require any physical action.

Reading can lead to action as a natural outcome.

Find the Right Mix

Reading is great, but it’s not everything.

You get experience and understanding when you use what you’ve learned. So, balance is key — read, then go out and do stuff.

Read a book because you have a goal, not because of its fancy title.

Although, I read fiction too, so I do read books because of their title. However, it is just for fun.

Determine what you want to achieve through reading. In order to do this, you must have a problem you want to solve, or some experience you want to gain.

Books show us the way, but it’s the things we do that really make a difference. Doing is the bridge between thinking and making things happen.

So, in order to avoid drowning in too much information, take breaks from reading.

Finished a chapter?
What can you do to prove it?
What action can you take now?

Think about what you’ve learned and most importantly, do something about it.

In the end, we’re all humans, and of course we’re going to get stuck in consuming once in a while but, in the mix of learning and doing, find your groove.

Let reading inspire you but let doing be the thing that moves you forward. The best story isn’t just about what you read; it’s about what you do.
